It might be just over an hour from metro Seattle, but Gold Bar is world’s away from the city.
This Northwest gem is a popular destination for history buffs, nature lovers, and white-water rafters, who love the thrill of running the rapids on the Skykomish River. And for a small town, there’s a lot to do! So the friendly budtenders at Gold Bar Marijuana have put together this list of dos and don’ts to make sure you make the most out of your visit—whether it’s your first trip or your 50th.
So what are you waiting for? Come and experience one of Washington state’s best-kept secrets!
Do: Get Coffee at BigFoot Brew
715 Croft Ave W, Gold Bar, WA
Make sure you’ve fueled up for the day with a stop at BigFoot Brew! Along with all your favorite coffee, chai tea, and espresso drinks, this local staple also features creamy smoothies, soft-serve shakes, and frozen lemonade. If you’re feeling adventurous, check out the spicy mango smoothie, and if you’ve brought a four-legged friend along, make sure to grab them a free doggie treat!
Don’t: Miss Great Hiking Opportunities
There’s no shortage of amazing hikes in the Gold Bar area. One our favorites is the Wallace Falls Trail, which climbs 1200 feet up to a magnificent waterfall perfect for a picnic lunch. The 3.8 Bridal Veil Falls Trail hike also features a waterfall at the top, but those up for a challenge will want to tackle Blanca Lake, because while the nearly 12-mile round trip will leave you exhausted, views of the glacier-fed lake will keep you exhilarated. Make sure to check beforehand to make sure you don’t need a Northwest Forest Pass.
Do: Go Fishing
Along with its exciting rapids, the Skykomish River is known around Washington State for its fantastic fly fishing. Depending on the time of year, anglers can expect to haul in several varieties of salmon and trout, and those braving the elements between late December and early January can expect to be rewarded with the famous winter steelhead. Head to the official Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife site for all the info on water access and licensing requirements.
Don’t: Skip a Meal at Rico’s Pizza
40709 SR 2, Gold Bar, Washington 98251
Located just off Route 2, Rico’s Pizza is a local favorite, and a popular stop for burly bikers and hungry hikers. Plenty of drivers have discovered Rico’s after getting stuck in traffic on the highway, only discover that the one-time detour is now a destination! While the kitchen hits it out of the park with all their traditional takes on pizza and calzones, inventive creations like the African pizza and Caribbean pizza keep diners coming back to expand their palates.
